Melanotan 2

A synthetic analogue of the body's α-MSH hormone, studied for stimulating melanin (tanning) and, secondarily, appetite and libido effects.

What it is

Melanotan 2 is a lab-made analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It's best known in research for its effect on skin pigmentation — producing a tan with less UV exposure.

How it's thought to work

It activates melanocortin receptors, especially MC1R, which signals melanocytes to produce more melanin (skin pigment). Because melanocortin receptors also influence appetite and sexual function, Melanotan 2 can have those secondary effects too.

Potential health benefits

Studied / observed for:

  • Increased melanin and tanning with reduced UV exposure.
  • Appetite suppression in some research.
  • Libido effects via the melanocortin system.

What the research says

The pigmentation effect is well documented. However, because Melanotan 2 hits multiple melanocortin receptors broadly, it's associated with side effects like nausea, flushing and changes to moles/freckles in user reports.

Considerations

A research compound, not an approved medicine. Skin and systemic effects make professional medical advice important.
