Epitalon
Also known as Epithalon
A synthetic tetrapeptide studied for its effects on telomerase, circadian rhythm and the pineal gland, with longstanding interest in longevity research.
What it is
Epitalon (or Epithalon) is a four-amino-acid peptide based on a substance from the pineal gland. It has a long history in longevity research, much of it originating from Russian gerontology studies.
How it's thought to work
Epitalon is thought to stimulate telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective caps (telomeres) on chromosomes, and to help regulate melatonin and circadian rhythm via the pineal gland. Both are pathways tied to ageing.
Potential health benefits
Studied for:
- Healthy-ageing and cellular-maintenance pathways.
- Sleep and circadian-rhythm support.
- Antioxidant and stress-resilience effects.
What the research says
Long-running animal and some human studies (largely from a single research lineage) reported lifespan and health-marker benefits. The independent, large-scale human evidence is limited, so claims should be read cautiously.
Considerations
A research compound, not an approved therapy. Qualified medical advice is recommended.
